Legacy Funeral Director Faces 63 Charges Over Remains, Fraud Hull

Robert Bush, director of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull, appeared in court facing 63 charges related to the mishandling of deceased bodies and fraudulent activities. He is accused of 30 counts of preventing lawful burial and 31 counts of fraud by false representation concerning remains found at the funeral home between 2017 and 2024. The investigation, launched by Humberside Police in March 2023 after reports raised concerns about the care of the deceased, uncovered bodies left to decompose and human ashes improperly handled. Additional charges include fraudulent trading related to funeral plans sold over more than a decade and theft from multiple charities such as the Salvation Army and RNLI. Bush was granted bail with conditions to report daily to police and is scheduled to appear at Hull Crown Court in August. The case highlights serious breaches of trust and legal obligations in the funeral services industry.
