Cobra Kai Creators Expected to Produce Knight Rider Movie for Universal

The creators of the hit Netflix series Cobra Kai—Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald—are in early talks to adapt the 1980s TV classic Knight Rider into a new feature film for Universal Pictures. The trio will write the screenplay and produce the project through their Counterbalance Entertainment studio, with Hurwitz and Schlossberg also expected to direct. This reboot will be produced alongside Kelly McCormick and David Leitch's 87North banner, as well as Spyglass producers Gary Barber and Chris Stone. Knight Rider originally aired on NBC from 1982 to 1986 and starred David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a detective partnered with an artificially intelligent car named KITT, fighting crime through a secret organization called FLAG. Previous attempts to reboot the franchise stalled, but the involvement of the Cobra Kai team, known for revitalizing nostalgic properties with broad appeal, has generated significant excitement. Plot details remain under wraps, but the project is overseen by Universal's executive production team, signaling a major studio commitment to bringing the iconic series back to the big screen.
