Bemidji Man Charged in Minneapolis Shootings

Joshua Anthony Jones, a 36-year-old from Bemidji, has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder following a shooting spree near homeless encampments in Minneapolis that resulted in one fatality and another injury. Prosecutors allege that Jones, identified as a member of the Native Mob gang, fatally shot 39-year-old Robert Brown in an alley and critically injured another man later that same day. He is also under investigation for a third shooting incident that left a 20-year-old dead. Surveillance footage captured Jones committing the murder, which was described by Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty as horrifying but not aimed at the broader unhoused community. Encampment organizers have criticized the police response, emphasizing the systemic issues facing the unhoused population. Authorities have made it clear that they aim to ensure safety for all community members, regardless of housing status.
