Jets QB Tyrod Taylor Undergoes Knee Surgery Misses Preseason
New York Jets backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and will miss the remainder of the preseason, though the team hopes he will be ready for the regular-season opener. Taylor, a seasoned veteran entering his 15th NFL season, is expected to back up starting quarterback Justin Fields, who has also dealt with injuries but played in the preseason opener. With Taylor sidelined, backup reps will increase for undrafted rookies Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook, both of whom are inexperienced at the NFL regular-season level. Taylor brings extensive experience to the Jets, having started 58 regular-season games and played in 94, including helping the Bills reach the playoffs in 2017 and winning a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2012. The Jets are aiming to end a nearly decade-long playoff drought under new head coach Aaron Glenn, who has fostered positive relationships with players and media. Wide receiver Allen Lazard is also expected to miss about two weeks due to a shoulder injury, slightly impacting the Jets' offensive depth.
