Archer, United Target 2026 NYC Air Taxi Launch
Archer Aviation and United Airlines plan to launch an electric air taxi network in New York City, aiming to reduce trips between Manhattan and major airports to 5-15 minutes using piloted Midnight eVTOL aircraft. The network will initially connect nine locations, including Manhattan heliports and major and regional airports, utilizing existing aviation infrastructure for vertiports and charging. Aviation partners Atlantic Aviation and Signature are supporting the project, while United Airlines will assist with maintenance and operations. The air taxi service will be offered as an add-on to United flight bookings. FAA Type Certification for the Midnight aircraft has not yet been secured, and the companies are targeting a commercial launch in 2026, pending regulatory and infrastructure readiness. Pricing is expected to compete with premium car services like Uber Black.
