Maryland Launches $1 Billion Quantum Initiative

Governor Wes Moore announced the 'Capital of Quantum' initiative, a public-private partnership aimed at attracting $1 billion in investments to establish Maryland as a global leader in quantum technology. This initiative, unveiled alongside the governor's economic growth agenda for 2025, involves collaborations with the University of Maryland and IonQ, a quantum computing firm. The initiative's funding will include an initial $27.5 million from the state budget and aims to enhance workforce development, expand quantum facilities, and recruit top scientists and engineers. Moore emphasized that quantum technology has the potential to revolutionize various sectors, including national security and healthcare. The strategic partnership seeks to solidify Maryland's position in the competitive quantum industry landscape, which includes other states like Illinois and Colorado. Additionally, the Moore administration has prioritized quantum computing through executive orders and state investments.
