Chelsea's ownership is experiencing significant turmoil as Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are reportedly considering buying each other out. Since their acquisition of the club from Roman Abramovich in May 2022 for £4.25bn, the relationship between Boehly and Clearlake co-founder Behdad Eghbali has deteriorated, leading to a 'civil war' within the boardroom. Boehly, who owns 13% of the club, wants to buy out Clearlake’s 61.5% stake to implement his long-term plans, including building a new stadium. However, Clearlake has no intention of selling and is instead open to increasing its stake. The ongoing conflict has slowed down key projects and affected the club's performance, despite over £1bn being spent on transfers. Both parties are under pressure to resolve the issue to prevent further instability at Stamford Bridge.
