Hawaii Vehicle Safety Inspection Fees Rise July 2025
Hawaii’s Department of Transportation announced that, beginning July 1, 2025, the annual vehicle safety inspection fee will increase by 75 cents, bringing the cost to $25.75 for automobiles and trucks and $17.75 for motorcycles and trailers. This marks the first increase since 2017 and is intended to address rising vendor costs for the Periodic Motor Vehicle Inspection (PMVI) program, with contractor Parsons Corporation’s share rising from $1.34 to $2.09 per inspection. The Department of Transportation will continue to collect $1.70 per inspection for administrative purposes, while inspection stations retain the remainder. Replacement fees for lost or destroyed inspection stickers will also rise by 75 cents to $7.09. About 1.2 million inspections are conducted annually at approximately 500 authorized locations across the state. The fee increase follows a public hearing in December 2024 and further information is available on the HDOT website.
