Undocumented Driver Nearly Triple Legal Limit Kills Vegas Police Officer in Wrong-Way Crash

News summary

Fernando Jimenez-Jimenez, an undocumented immigrant from Mexico, was driving nearly three times over the legal blood-alcohol limit and had THC in his system when he caused a wrong-way crash on Interstate 15 that killed off-duty Las Vegas Police Officer Colton Pulsipher and himself. Jimenez-Jimenez was also unlicensed and driving an uninsured vehicle at the time of the crash. Investigators found several empty alcohol containers, marijuana dispensary receipts, and packages in and around his vehicle, and a passenger reported that they had been drinking in the desert prior to the crash. Jimenez-Jimenez was traveling between 91 and 99 mph when he collided head-on with Pulsipher's vehicle, who was returning home and left behind a wife and three children. A third driver was injured in the aftermath when another vehicle collided with Jimenez-Jimenez's truck. Jimenez-Jimenez had previously applied for U.S. citizenship but was ordered removed from the country by an immigration judge and had entered illegally twice before being returned to Mexico by ICE.
