James Provost, a 59-year-old man, was fatally attacked by a group of eight to nine mixed-breed pit bulls in Albany, New York, on October 9. The attack occurred in the backyard of a house on Central Avenue where a total of 24 dogs, including 15 puppies, were being kept. Police responded to the scene around 6 p.m., and one officer shot a dog to disperse the pack, but Provost was pronounced dead at the scene. All the dogs were confiscated by authorities and taken to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society. The dogs' owner, who lives in Cohoes and not at the residence, is cooperating with the police, but potential criminal charges are being considered. The incident is under active investigation as authorities seek to understand the circumstances, including why Provost was at the location.
