Grateful Dead Honored as 2025 MusiCares Persons

The Grateful Dead will be honored as the 2025 MusiCares Persons of the Year in recognition of their 60th anniversary and their significant contributions to music and philanthropy. Original band members Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bobby Weir, along with posthumous tributes to the late Jerry Garcia, will be celebrated at the 34th annual benefit gala on January 31, 2025, just before the Grammy Awards. The band is known for its influence on the music scene and its philanthropic efforts, including environmental conservation, mental health, and music education. MusiCares Executive Director Laura Segura praised the band for building a community that embodies connection and support. This will be the first time the MusiCares honor includes a posthumous tribute, marking a milestone in the event's history. The gala will feature performances of Grateful Dead's music, with Don Was serving as the music director.
