WRAP Launches UK Textiles Pact to Cut Carbon, Water Footprint by 50%, 30%
WRAP has rebranded its Textiles 2030 voluntary agreement as the UK Textiles Pact, aligning it with its other flagship initiatives like the UK Food & Drink Pact and UK Plastics Pact. The pact, which involves over 130 organizations across the fashion and textiles supply chain, continues to commit signatories to ambitious targets including a 50% reduction in the carbon footprint and a 30% reduction in the water footprint of new textile products placed on the market. This rebranding is part of WRAP's refreshed global mission to advance circular living and forms a key part of its broader Textiles Action Network, aimed at sharing knowledge and achieving net zero carbon emissions in the textile industry. The UK government, through Environment Secretary Steve Reed, has reaffirmed its support for the pact as part of its Circular Economy Taskforce strategy. Separately, the Future Fabrics Expo and Performance Days have announced a strategic partnership to promote sustainable textile innovation globally, starting with joint events in London and expanding to other cities. This collaboration seeks to enhance industry education, clarify sustainability certifications, and increase access to responsibly sourced fabrics to support the transition to more sustainable textiles.
