South Carolina Man Faces Multiple Federal Charges

Austin Suman, a 35-year-old man from Myrtle Beach, has been arrested for allegedly making violent and hate-based threats against a New York reporter. The threats, sent via Facebook and email, included promises to kill the reporter and her family, and blow up her house, motivated by her previous reporting on his 2019 arrest. Suman claimed to have regained his firearms, including fully automatic weapons, and used ethnic and sexist slurs in his messages. He faces federal charges, including threatening interstate communications, willfully making a threat involving explosives, and interstate stalking. The FBI and local law enforcement conducted the arrest in Myrtle Beach, and Suman will be extradited to New York to face these charges. The U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized the importance of protecting the press, stating that anyone who threatens journalists will be held accountable.
