Metallica’s Black Album Certified Double Diamond 20 Million Sales

Metallica has reached significant new milestones with two of their landmark albums receiving recent RIAA certifications. Their self-titled 1991 album, known as The Black Album, was certified double diamond for selling over 20 million copies in the U.S., making it one of the few albums in history to achieve this rare status. The Black Album remains the best-selling album of the Luminate era, outselling every release in every genre for over 30 years, and includes iconic tracks like "Enter Sandman" and "Nothing Else Matters." Additionally, their 1986 album Master of Puppets was certified 8x platinum, having sold over eight million copies, and is recognized by the Library of Congress for its cultural and historical significance. Both albums continue to sell and stream robustly decades after their release, underscoring Metallica's enduring legacy and influence in heavy music. These recent certifications place Metallica alongside other legendary albums such as Green Day's Dookie and Shania Twain's Come On Over, which have also reached double diamond status.
