Thomson Medical Launches $5.5B Johor Bay Mega Healthcare Project
Thomson Medical Group has launched the Johor Bay Mega Project, a 26-acre integrated development in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone with a projected gross development value exceeding RM18 billion ($4.3 billion). The project will include a 500-bed private hospital named Thomson Hospital Iskandariah, specialist suites, aged care facilities, a life sciences tower, luxury residences, a five-star hotel, serviced apartments, and commercial lifestyle precincts. Positioned strategically near the upcoming Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, the development aims to leverage Johor's lower living costs and proximity to Singapore, intending to boost medical tourism and serve the region's aging population. The first phase, valued at RM3.1 billion, will feature the hospital and a 47-storey luxury residential tower, expected to create more than 1,200 jobs, with thousands more anticipated as the project progresses. The development is seen as a strategic investment to capitalize on economic growth, infrastructure momentum, and demographic shifts, and is projected to generate 20,000 skilled jobs for residents on both sides of the Causeway. Thomson Medical Group, controlled by Singapore billionaire Peter Lim, highlights the project's potential to transform the region's healthcare, residential, and commercial landscape.
