Walmart Faces Lawsuits Over Pricing, Fraud Claims
Walmart faces a significant class-action lawsuit alleging deceptive and unfair pricing practices after a federal appeals court reversed a lower court's dismissal. The plaintiff, Yoram Kahn, claims Walmart's shelf prices often do not match checkout prices, leading to small overcharges that cumulatively amount to hundreds of millions of dollars annually. The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled consumers could attempt to prove Walmart's pricing practices violated state consumer protection laws. Additionally, a separate case saw a U.S. judge dismiss a central claim in an FTC lawsuit accusing Walmart of ignoring fraudulent activities in its money transfer services. This dismissal was with prejudice, meaning the FTC cannot refile the claim, although it can still seek an injunction against unfair practices under the FTC Act.
