Kansas Trooper Locates Missing Nebraska Man With Alzheimer's

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper located a missing elderly man from Omaha, Nebraska, during a traffic stop on US-36 in eastern Jewell County after the man was observed speeding and driving erratically. When stopped, the trooper noticed the driver was confused and learned that he was trying to return to Omaha. Further investigation revealed the man had Alzheimer’s and had been reported missing by his wife the previous day. With assistance from the Omaha Police Department, Republic County Sheriff’s Office, and a local first responder, authorities ensured the man's safety, arranged for his vehicle’s transport, and coordinated a reunion with his family. This incident underscores the broader role of law enforcement in providing aid to those in need, beyond traditional road safety enforcement. The trooper involved, Andrew Mai, is a recent Kansas Highway Patrol Academy graduate and a former K9 officer.
