Modi's Historic Visit to Kuwait Strengthens Ties

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a historic two-day visit to Kuwait, marking the first visit by an Indian prime minister to the Gulf nation in 43 years, at the invitation of Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties in trade, energy, and security, as well as to enhance cooperation in defense. Modi's visit began with a stop at a labour camp in Mina Abdullah to express solidarity and support for Indian workers abroad, highlighting his government’s commitment to their welfare. This visit occurs amidst geopolitical changes in West Asia, with potential discussions on regional peace and stability. The Indian community in Kuwait, which is the largest expatriate group, plays a significant role in strengthening the bonds between the two nations. Additionally, India and Kuwait share a robust trade relationship, with bilateral trade reaching $10.47 billion in the 2023-24 financial year.
