Big Cat Rescue Sells Land for Development

Big Cat Rescue, the Tampa sanctuary featured in Netflix's 'Tiger King,' has sold 56 of its 67 acres for $19.5 million to a Florida developer for the construction of townhomes and apartments. The remaining 11 acres are expected to be sold soon for further development. Howard and Carole Baskin, owners of the sanctuary, relocated their cats to a larger facility in Arkansas, which offers more space for the animals. The proceeds from the land sale will fund global wild cat preservation efforts and support the care of the relocated cats. The Baskins view the sale as a positive step for big cat rights, highlighting a decreased need for animal sanctuaries.
