Wetherspoon implements price hikes at UK pubs

JD Wetherspoon has announced a price increase for food and drinks across its nearly 800 UK pubs, effective immediately. The average price of a meal deal has risen by 30p, now costing £5.29 without alcohol and £6.82 with it, while drink prices have increased by 15p. This move comes in response to a projected £60 million rise in labor-related costs due to increased National Insurance contributions and minimum wage adjustments. Despite the hikes, Wetherspoon has assured customers that several popular drinks will remain at their current prices, including Budweiser and Carling. Chairman Tim Martin has called on the government to reduce taxes on pub food, highlighting the competitive pressures the hospitality sector faces. Wetherspoon's pricing strategy aims to balance cost increases while maintaining its reputation as a budget-friendly option for patrons.
