Somerville Fire Destroys Multiple Homes, Causes House Collapse

A large fire broke out just before midnight at a vacant home under construction at 75 Thurston Street in Somerville, causing the building to collapse and spreading flames to two neighboring houses. Firefighters from multiple nearby communities battled the three-alarm blaze for several hours, manually opening walls and ceilings to contain the fire. Although the fire caused extensive damage and displaced multiple residents, no injuries were reported. The Red Cross is assisting those displaced, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The smoke was visible from across the Charles River in Boston, drawing crowds and media to the scene. This incident follows a recent fire in the area that displaced 18 residents, highlighting ongoing fire safety concerns in Somerville.
