The crash resulted in significant facial and rib injuries and led to a lengthy recovery period during which he rarely left his home except for medical appointments. Flintoff emphasized the difficulty of accepting himself again and described the process as "finding myself or finding the person I want to be." In a Disney+ documentary, he candidly admitted that part of him wished he had died, highlighting the intense emotional toll the incident took on him.
