Newcastle beat Union 4-0 in Brussels
Newcastle United claimed their first Champions League points with a dominant 4-0 away win over Union Saint-Gilloise in Brussels at the Constant Vanden Stock. Sandro Tonali’s first-time attempt was flicked in by Nick Woltemade, Anthony Gordon converted two penalties, and substitute Harvey Barnes sealed the rout late on. Eddie Howe made two changes to the starting XI, with Kieran Trippier and Anthony Elanga coming in. The result came after Newcastle’s opening 2-1 Champions League loss to Barcelona and last weekend’s league defeat to Arsenal, offering a timely response to recent setbacks. It was Newcastle’s biggest ever away win in the Champions League and their first European away victory since 2013; Union had arrived on the back of a 3-1 win at PSV.
