NYPD Shoots Armed Man in Staten Island Parking Lot

A 55-year-old man was shot dead by NYPD officers in the parking lot of a Home Depot on Staten Island in an apparent suicide-by-cop incident. The man had called 911 on himself early Thursday, claiming he was armed in a Jeep. Upon arrival, officers found him firing his gun into the air and attempted to deescalate by ordering him to drop his weapon. When he pointed the firearm at the officers, they opened fire, hitting him multiple times. He was taken to Staten Island University Hospital North, where he was pronounced dead. The incident is under investigation by the NYPD’s Force Investigation Division, and body-worn camera footage, as well as security camera recordings, are being reviewed.
