Yves Bissouma and Moussa Diarra of Mali tested positive for malaria during the Africa Cup of Nations. Bissouma continued to play while Diarra had to start some light training to recover. Despite Bissouma's involvement, host nation Ivory Coast defeated Mali with a 122nd-minute winner, and both teams had players sent off due to wild celebrations. Bissouma's coach confirmed that his malaria case was not as serious as Diarra's due to him being born in West Africa. Despite the defeat, Mali's star midfielder and his team have shown resilience and determination while competing at AFCON.
