US Trade, Business Delegations Engage China in Coordinated Talks, Negotiations

A high-level U.S. trade delegation has arrived in Stockholm for talks with China focused on structural issues such as market access, industrial overcapacity, and fentanyl-related trade tensions, with the goal of shaping a limited agreement potentially tied to partial tariff relief. Treasury Secretary Bessent and USTR Greer lead the negotiations alongside China's Vice Premier He Lifeng, aiming to lay groundwork for a possible Trump-Xi summit later this year. Concurrently, American executives, led by FedEx CEO Rajesh Subramaniam and including Boeing representatives, are set to visit China in a trip organized by the U.S.-China Business Council to engage with senior Chinese officials and revive business discussions. These executive visits coincide with ongoing trade talks and reflect efforts to advance economic relations as China faces an August 12 deadline to reach a durable deal or face higher U.S. tariffs. The U.S. government is not directly involved in organizing the executive delegation, but both sides are working toward a comprehensive deal and a potential presidential summit around the APEC forum in late October. Additionally, a Bangladesh delegation is scheduled to visit the U.S. to continue tariff negotiations, highlighting broader global trade engagement.
