Turkmenistan to Boost Energy Supplies to ECO Countries

Turkmenistan is poised to enhance its natural gas and electricity supplies to member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), as emphasized by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov during a recent meeting at the UN General Assembly. The country aims to bolster regional cooperation and sustainability in energy, with plans for a fifth session of the ECO renewable energy group in 2024. Concurrently, Turkmenistan is also focusing on strengthening energy cooperation with the United States through the C5+1 diplomatic platform, addressing security and trade as well. In the broader context, Kazakhstan is negotiating an increase in its natural gas exports to China, which could involve building a new pipeline, intensifying competition with Turkmenistan and Russia. This comes as Kazakhstan seeks to capitalize on China's growing demand for gas, especially following reduced European market opportunities for Russia. Both countries are strategically positioning themselves to meet energy needs within the region, with Turkmenistan exploring new partnerships and Kazakhstan aiming to expand its export capabilities.
