Nokia Provides Optical Networking for TenneT's Offshore Wind Project

Nokia has been selected by TenneT to provide optical networking technology for eight new 2-gigawatt platforms in the Dutch North Sea, aimed at enhancing renewable energy transmission from offshore wind farms. This initiative plays a vital role in Europe's goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050, facilitating the transfer of large volumes of renewable energy to the mainland. Nokia's 1830 PSS DWDM technology will ensure reliable long-distance communication, supporting distances of up to 400 kilometers, with comprehensive design, testing, and operational support included in the project. The deployment is set to commence in early 2025, with the first platform expected to become operational by 2029. TenneT's collaboration with Nokia underscores the importance of innovative technologies in the energy transition, enabling remote management of the offshore platforms.
