Since joining the calendar in 2016 initially as the European Grand Prix, the event has become a popular and exciting stop, featuring a unique street circuit that runs along the Caspian Sea shoreline and past the historic old town. The extension highlights the strong cooperation and mutual trust between Formula 1, the Azerbaijani government, and local promoters, with F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali praising the city's energy and warm welcome. Baku's race has seen seven different winners over eight races, with Sergio Perez notably winning twice. Despite its appeal, the event's paddock remains quieter compared to other venues, with less VIP presence.
