Opposition Grows Against Villa Rosa Development

The Villa Rosa project in St Julian's is facing significant opposition from the Church’s Environment Commission, which criticized proposed amendments allowing for a massive construction including a 34-storey tower. The Commission argued that the plans lack consideration for community impacts such as increased traffic and reduced sunlight. In response, the developers, Garnet Investments Limited, claimed that the criticisms were based on outdated designs and emphasized their commitment to align future developments with community needs and environmental safeguards. The Commission, along with local NGOs and residents, has called for a thorough review of the Strategic Plan for the Environment and Development (SPED) to eliminate regulations that could allow exploitation of loopholes. They argue that current processes prioritize individual interests over community welfare, undermining sustainable development ideals. Public consultation is ongoing, with residents voicing their concerns until November 25, 2024.
