Matthew Hudson-Smith narrowly missed out on becoming the first British man in a century to win Olympic gold in the 400m, finishing second to American Quincy Hall by just 0.04 seconds. Hudson-Smith's time of 43.45 seconds set a personal and European record but was eclipsed by Hall's 43.40 seconds, the fourth-fastest time in history. Team GB also secured silver in the men's team pursuit cycling event and bronze in the women's team pursuit. The Olympics saw additional drama with American Cole Hocker winning the 1500m gold and Noah Lyles' unexpected defeat in the 200m race. As the Olympics head into their final days, Team GB continues to add to their medal tally, bringing the total to over 1000 all-time medals.
