Corbin Burnes signed a six-year, $210 million contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, citing proximity to his Scottsdale home and the contract's long-term security as decisive factors. Although the Baltimore Orioles made a competitive offer with a four-year, $180 million deal that boasted a higher average annual value (AAV) of $45 million, Burnes opted for the Diamondbacks due to the longevity and additional benefits of the contract. The Diamondbacks' offer includes a $10 million signing bonus and a total of $64 million in deferred payments. Burnes also has an opt-out option after four years, providing flexibility for future negotiations. His decision was influenced by both financial considerations and personal preferences, as well as Arizona's lower state income tax compared to Maryland.
