Appleton Water Utility has been named the winner of the 2024 Wisconsin Tap Water Taste Test, securing the title of best-tasting tap water in the state. The award was presented at the Wisconsin American Water Works Association's annual conference in Madison, and Appleton will represent Wisconsin at the national competition in Denver in June 2025. The utility serves approximately 75,000 residents, sourcing its water from Lake Winnebago and employing advanced treatment processes including lime softening, filtration, and UV treatment. Relief operator Kyle Smith expressed pride in the team's achievement and emphasized the quality and safety of the water provided. The Tap Water Taste Test is a celebrated event where utilities from across Wisconsin compete for recognition.
