St. Joseph Launches 24/7 Community Cabinet Food Shelf

A new 24/7 community food cabinet has been launched in St. Joseph, providing an accessible resource for individuals hesitant to visit traditional food shelves. This initiative was developed by the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with local businesses and organizations, aiming to help those facing stigma around food assistance. The cabinet, stocked monthly by different local businesses, contains meals and toiletries for individuals in various living situations, from transient individuals to families. Meanwhile, the North Liberty Community Pantry is seeking support for its Planting New Roots campaign, which aims to construct a new facility in response to a significant increase in demand for food assistance. Additionally, Simple Decency has partnered with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office to establish a food pantry at the local detention center, targeting families affected by incarceration and others in need. These initiatives reflect a growing community effort to address food insecurity across different regions.
