Typhoon Krathon Wreaks Havoc in Philippines and Taiwan

Typhoon Krathon, known as Julian in the Philippines, caused significant devastation across the northern Philippines and Taiwan. In the Philippines, the storm resulted in five deaths due to drowning and electrocution, with infrastructure and agriculture damages estimated at over 1 billion pesos. As Krathon moved towards Taiwan, it made landfall in the city of Kaohsiung as a weakened Category 1 typhoon, resulting in two deaths and widespread damage, including power outages affecting over 176,000 households at its peak. The storm caused severe travel disruptions, leading to the cancellation of hundreds of flights and the suspension of Taiwan's high-speed rail services. Torrential rains and strong winds led to significant flooding and landslides in Taiwan, prompting widespread closures of schools and businesses. The typhoon is expected to continue weakening and move towards Taipei, having caused notable disruptions in both Taiwan and the Philippines.
