Mayo, a former player and inside linebackers coach for the Patriots, led the team to a 4-13 record in his only season as head coach. Following Mayo's departure, the Patriots hired Mike Vrabel, a former Patriots linebacker with head coaching experience, to take over. Vrabel, who previously coached the Tennessee Titans, brings along several former Titans staff members. Robert Kraft, the Patriots' owner, acknowledged the difficult situation Mayo was placed in, citing lack of time and experience as factors in his dismissal. Despite the change, Gonzalez remains optimistic about working with Vrabel and continuing his progression in the team.
