Coalition of 17 AGs Blocks Machine Gun Conversion Devices Sales, Returns Across States
A coalition of 17 state attorneys general, including those from Michigan, Nevada, Massachusetts, Washington, and Maryland, successfully blocked the Trump administration's plan to distribute machine gun conversion devices, known as Forced Reset Triggers (FRTs), in their states. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) confirmed in court that it would not return or sell these devices in the plaintiff states, and Rare Breed Triggers, the largest supplier, agreed to halt sales there as well. FRTs significantly increase a firearm’s rate of fire, capable of discharging up to 20 rounds per second, and have been linked to a dramatic rise in violent crimes and mass shootings, including a reported 1,400% increase in machine-gun fire incidents between 2019 and 2021. Following these commitments, the coalition withdrew their motion for a preliminary injunction, marking a major legal victory against the distribution of these dangerous devices. State attorneys general emphasized that these weapons of war have no place in communities and schools, highlighting the importance of protecting public safety and upholding the rule of law. The states involved include Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.
