Singer Onyeka Onwenu dies

Onyeka Onwenu, the iconic Nigerian singer known as the 'Elegant Stallion,' tragically passed away on July 30, 2024, after collapsing at a birthday party in Lagos. Following her performance at the event hosted by Stella Okoli, Onwenu slumped and was rushed to Reddington Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Although the cause of her death has not yet been confirmed, eyewitness accounts describe the shocking incident as deeply saddening. Onwenu, born on May 31, 1952, had a prolific career spanning over four decades as a singer, songwriter, actress, journalist, and political activist. Alongside her music, she was actively involved in social issues and served as chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture.
