Evansville Sex Offenders Sentenced to Long Prison Terms for Child Abuse Crimes

Casey Lee Smith, a 48-year-old registered sex offender from Evansville, was sentenced to 17.5 years in federal prison for distributing child sexual abuse material via the messaging app Kik. Smith had uploaded 16 files depicting prepubescent minors and sadistic acts, and investigators found 95 images and videos on his phone, some involving infants. He failed to disclose Kik as one of his social media accounts in his sex offender registration, a requirement given his prior felony convictions dating back to 2003. U.S. Attorney Tom Wheeler condemned Smith's actions, emphasizing law enforcement's commitment to prosecuting those who exploit children online. FBI Indianapolis Special Agent Timothy J. O’Malley highlighted the ongoing abuse represented by each file Smith shared. Separately, Jeffrey Scott Wagner, another convicted child molester from Evansville, received an 80-year sentence after being found guilty of molesting two children under age 10, with prosecutors noting that Wagner's sentence reflects the lifelong impact on his victims.
