Austrian Gunman Kills 10 in Graz School Shooting, Motive Unclear

A 21-year-old former student carried out a meticulously planned seven-minute shooting at his old high school in Graz, Austria, killing nine students and a teacher before committing suicide. Investigators confirmed the gunman had developed a significant fascination and passion for school shootings and their perpetrators over several years, frequently glorifying these acts on social media. Despite this obsession, the motive behind his attack remains unclear, as does why he stopped shooting despite having ample ammunition left. The shooter legally owned the firearms used, and police found evidence of plans for an explosive attack as well as a suicide note that offered no motive. The shooting has sparked numerous copycat threats, prompting around 30 police interventions in Graz alone. In response, Austria's Chancellor Christian Stocker announced plans to tighten the country's comparatively liberal gun laws, while local officials called for stricter regulation or a complete ban on private weapons.
