John Weddle Appointed to Mississippi Court of Appeals
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves has appointed John Weddle, a former district attorney, to the state Court of Appeals, filling the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Jim M. Greenlee. Weddle, who has practiced law since 1995 and served as district attorney since 2015, will begin his term on October 14, 2024. He has held various legal positions including public defender and municipal court judge, and has been involved in leadership roles within the Mississippi Prosecutor’s Association. A nonpartisan special election is scheduled for November 3, 2026, to fill the remainder of Weddle's eight-year term, which expires at the end of 2030. Governor Reeves praised Weddle's extensive legal experience and public service, emphasizing his suitability for the role. Weddle holds a law degree from the University of Mississippi and a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University.
