Pirates Legend Dave Parker Dies Weeks Before Hall Induction
Dave Parker, a legendary MLB outfielder known as "The Cobra," has died at age 74, just weeks before his scheduled induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Renowned for his powerful hitting and strong arm, Parker was the 1978 National League MVP and a key player in two World Series championships with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1979 and the Oakland Athletics in 1989. Over his 19-season career, he accumulated 339 home runs, 1,493 RBIs, and a .290 batting average, playing also for Cincinnati, Milwaukee, California, and Toronto. Despite not being elected during his initial eligibility, Parker was voted into the Hall of Fame by a special committee in December 2024. The Pirates and the baseball community mourned his passing, highlighting his impact on the sport and his vibrant personality. A moment of silence was observed at the Pirates' game following the announcement, and details of Parker's memorial services have yet to be released.
