Haas F1's Esteban Ocon Disqualified from Azerbaijan GP Qualifying Over Rear Wing Breach
Esteban Ocon, driving for Haas in the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, was disqualified from qualifying after his car failed post-session technical checks due to exceeding the allowed rear wing tip deflection of 0.5mm. The FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer conducted the test and found the deflection to be 0.6mm on the left side and 0.825mm on the right, which led to the stewards invalidating his qualifying time and relegating him to start the race from the back of the grid or potentially the pit lane after Haas needs to replace the rear wing. This new technical regulation, introduced earlier in the 2025 season, aims to prevent teams from gaining an aerodynamic advantage through flexible wings. Despite Ocon's disqualification, Haas received permission from the FIA stewards to allow him to race. The team admitted the issue was due to a production problem with the specific rear wing assembly. Ocon's removal from the qualifying classification means other drivers like Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon will move up one grid position each.
