Stellantis has announced a $406 million investment to upgrade three Michigan plants, with the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant designated as the first U.S. facility to produce a fully electric vehicle, the Ram 1500 REV, set to launch in late 2024. The investment includes $235.5 million for the Sterling Heights plant, which will also manufacture the range-extended Ram 1500 Ramcharger alongside traditional models. This transformation was completed in just two weeks, showcasing the plant's rapid adaptation for electric vehicle production. Additional funds will support the Warren Truck Assembly Plant for an upcoming electric Jeep Wagoneer, and the Dundee Engine Plant for battery-related manufacturing. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares emphasized the significance of these developments in aligning with customer demand for a multi-energy vehicle strategy. The announcement follows recent layoffs at the Warren facility, marking a shift towards electrification in Stellantis's operations.
