VIFF 2025 Premieres Richard Linklater Film, Features Korean Spotlight, Global Cinema
The 2025 Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) will open with Richard Linklater's Nouvelle Vague, a film about the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless, and feature a Spotlight on Korea highlighting emerging directors including Park Chan-wook and Hong Sangsoo. The Japanese Film Festival (JFF) 2025, themed "Bridg(e)ing," will run from September 18 to October 26, screening a diverse lineup of 12 films nationwide for free, featuring classics by Akira Kurosawa and Hayao Miyazaki, as well as influential anime like Mamoru Oshii’s Ghost in the Shell. These festivals collectively highlight a blend of historical cinema, contemporary international films, and immersive cultural experiences, emphasizing connection through film and live artistic collaboration.
