UNC Football, Women's Basketball Roll to Wins
The UNC women’s basketball team opened the 2025–26 season with a 90–42 win over North Carolina Central at Carmichael Arena, shooting 54.2 percent, recording ten steals and getting five players into double figures (Nyla Brooks led with 15) after building a large halftime lead and a 22–2 burst. Carolina will resume conference play with a trip to Florida State on Jan. 18 and will look to returners and contributors such as Reniya Kelly and Indya Nivar. On the football field, North Carolina snapped a four-game skid with a 27–10 win at Syracuse, improving to 3–5 (1–3 ACC); freshman Demon June rushed for 101 yards and two touchdowns, QB Gio Lopez was efficient, and the defense held Syracuse to 147 yards. Meanwhile, UNC men’s soccer finished the season poorly, losing 2–0 to Duke and continuing offensive struggles (just two shots on goal against Duke).
