South Africa Confirms Bangladesh Tour Amid Unrest

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has confirmed that the two-match Test series against Bangladesh will proceed as planned, starting on October 21. This decision follows a thorough security assessment conducted by CSA officials, including an on-site inspection in Bangladesh. The South African squad, captained by Temba Bavuma, will arrive in Dhaka on October 16, with the first Test taking place in Dhaka and the second in Chattogram. The tour comes amidst a backdrop of political unrest in Bangladesh, which led to the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the relocation of the Women's T20 World Cup to the UAE. Senuran Muthusamy has been recalled to the squad, which also includes newcomer Matthew Breetzke. This series is crucial for South Africa, currently sixth in the World Test Championship, as they need to secure victories in at least five of their remaining matches to qualify for the final.
