A Richardson police officer fatally shot a man early Sunday morning in response to a domestic violence call. The incident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. at a residence where the victim reported being assaulted by her boyfriend, who was armed with a large knife. Upon arrival, the officer encountered the suspect in the garage, but he refused to drop the weapon despite multiple commands. The situation escalated as the man moved toward the officer, reached into a parked truck, and then turned toward her brandishing the knife, prompting the officer to discharge her firearm once, hitting him in the upper body. Medical assistance was rendered, but the man died later at a local hospital. The officer, who has been with the department for two years, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting.
