Harris County Approves Astrodome Fate Study

The Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation (HCSCC) has initiated a new study to explore the future of the Houston Astrodome, one week after the Astrodome Conservancy unveiled a $1 billion redevelopment plan. This study, managed by Kirksey Architecture, will assess the costs of restoring the facility to basic operational status—focusing on plumbing and HVAC systems—versus the costs of demolition. HCSCC Chairman Bishop James Dixon emphasized that the Astrodome has long been a symbol of Houston's pride and innovation, and the data from this study will guide future decisions regarding the structure and NRG Park as a whole.
