Google Gemini AI Surpasses 400 Million Monthly Users

Google's AI chatbot app, Gemini, has surpassed 400 million monthly active users, marking significant growth as it narrows the gap with OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has around 600 million users. CEO Sundar Pichai highlighted at Google I/O 2025 that Gemini's 2.5 series models have driven strong engagement, with a 45% usage increase among pro users and a 50-fold increase in token processing across Google's AI products. Google is integrating AI deeply across its ecosystem, including AI-powered overviews reaching over 1.5 billion users monthly and launching an AI Mode in Search for more complex, conversational queries. To support this growth and AI development costs, Google introduced an "AI Ultra Plan" offering higher usage limits and early access to advanced tools for $249.99 monthly, comparable to similar plans from OpenAI and Anthropic. The company also replaced the classic Google Assistant on Android with Gemini, enhancing natural language understanding and user experience, positioning Gemini as a central AI platform with rapid adoption worldwide.
